Testimonials

Swim Kids came highly recommended and our daughter enjoyed the first few lessons she did last summer. We took a break through the fall and when we started back up a few months later, she was very reluctant. She would state flatly that she didn't want to go, we drug her screaming to the lesson, and the instructors patiently eased her into the pool and the lesson. When she was still reluctant after four lessons, we took Liz's advice and went for the immersion approach - 10 lessons in two weeks. The very next lesson went smoothly (over the hump!) and the next two weeks she woke up every morning asking, "Can I go swimming today?" She became a fish overnight. We now have a weekly lesson and a family night out at the pool every week. It really helped push her through a tough 3 year old patch of "I can't do it" and has become an ongoing reward for working hard at something new. Thank you!

I have always felt that swimming is an important life skill for our children to learn, but when we bought a house with a pool it became a high priority. We did the summer intensive with Liz and Megan (sp?) and loved it. Four year old Caroline was so excited and loved the water from the first moment. Within just a few short weeks she went from loving the water, but hugging the wall to being able to confidently and capably move across the pool on her own. She became confident under and above the water and learned the joy of floating!

Joseph was two and feared water so much that to mention swimming usually created a chase of seeking while he hid from even putting on his swimming suit. I was nervous for him as we went to lessons the first day, but I knew this was essential for his safety. Even though I have taught swimming lessons before I knew it was important for him to have lessons with someone who could push him without affecting the relationship between parent and child. He cried through the first five lessons, but then was all smiles on lesson six when his confidence level began to meet his ability.

I was really impressed with the focus on safety and skill progression. This was not just an ordinary get in the water and have fun at your own comfort level, this was fifteen minutes of teaching the children to swim. And they learned. The instructors did a great job of helping the children increase their skill level and their confidence simultaneously.

Sarah was only 8 months old, but I loved the parent tot class. It helped me as a parent understand how to help them be more comfortable in the water and begin to learn how to encourage safe skills like floating and scooping. She became really comfortable with going under the water and floating in just 8 lessons.

I wish we could still go to swim kids, but we have moved, so now I just try to reinforce all the great things they taught our kids.

Thank you swimkids... we love you!

Dear Swimkids,

We love our swimming lessons at Swimkids! Our swimming skills and confidence levels have improved dramatically since we began taking lessons here a few years ago. Learning life saving techniques is so important and makes our Mom and Dad feel much better when we're in the water. Thanks for pushing us just the right amount to achieve our best!

In dark of night at the end of the boat dock was a group of children gathered on a floating boat, listening to ghost stories. Little 4-year-old A.J. approached from the dock, not wearing a life jacket as were the other children already on the boat. Mom and Dad were nowhere near. A.J. stepped from the dock to join the other children but missed his step and fell, unnoticed, into the dark water. He went down, down, down, eventually touching his toes on the bottom. All he could think of to do was make the “airplane arms” from swimming lessons. By the time he surfaced he was too tired to swim, so he just “rested on the water” until his cries for help were heard by his cousin. The cousin successfully pushed A.J. toward the dock until he could reach a handhold and pull himself out. Running to his mother he cried, with tears streaming down his cheeks, “Mommy, I just drowned!”

2-year-old Sarah C. was playing around the pool at her grandmother’s house in Provo when she suddenly fell backward into the pool’s deep end. Her 13-year-old uncle was panic-stricken. He didn’t know whether to run for help or try to jump in and save Sarah himself. But while he yelled for Sarah’s mother and decided what to do, Sarah flipped herself out.
> “I was just amazed,” said her mother, Heidi. “She was just fine. She couldn’t understand what all the commotion was about.”

We always make it a practice to close the pool cover immediately after we are finished swimming to protect our small twins. But one day last summer, when the twins were just two years old, I failed to close the cover after swimming and instead began working in the garden. After a few minutes I heard one of the twins crying wildly. I looked over to see that he had fallen in the pool but had pulled himself out. Before having lessons in [your] program he would not have known what to do, and I could not have helped him because I never even hear him fall in – there was not even a splash. But because of his lessons, he knew to right himself in the water, open his eyes to find the side of the pool, get to it, and pull himself out. It scared us both to death, but I was thrilled that he had developed the skills to save himself in an emergency.

Our 6-year-old daughter LOVES to swim. She had taken multiple group lessons at a local swimming pool, but had reached a plateau where she was not progressing on to the next level. By chance, we won 2 free Swimkids lessons in a silent auction at her school. During her first lesson, she had a huge smile on her face the whole time. Afterwards, she begged to return to Swimkids, telling us that she liked it because "I get to be with the teacher the whole time." (Plus, the pool was warmer!) I could see that she learned more in that first 30-minute lesson than she had in her entire last series of 6 group lessons. She benefited also from the higher quality swim goggles that fit her small face and enabled her to enjoy being underwater more. Over the course of 10 lessons, I was amazed at all she was able to learn and do - she was swimming across the pool independently, jumping off the diving board, and most importantly, learning to respect the water and swim safely. We are coming back for more lessons this Spring and will be signing up her younger brother as well. Swimkids has exceeded our expectations and we are happy to give our kids the gift of not only survival swimming, but loving the water. It will serve them well their entire lives. Thank you, Swimkids. :-)

I learned to swim at a young age and have always loved the water. I wanted that same experience for my son. Since I am a part time working parent I was excited to find a school that offers flexibility in scheduling. I enjoy the weekly class my son and I attend together. My 10 month old has learned to be comfortable holding his breath underwater and he is beginning to master the skill of floating! I like the nurturing environment SwimKids offers. The staff is friendly and helpful. It is worth the 30 minute drive to get the quality we enjoy at SwimKids!

"My two kids were both excited when SwimKids was able to accomodate us for some fast track lessons over spring break! I was very pleased with the progress that both of the kids made in such short time. The instructors were very attentive and good with the children. The staff was very patient and helpful. It is no longer such a challenge with 2 kids in the water at the same time because I know that they both know how to roll onto their backs and float. I would recommend swim kids to anyone looking for lessons.

My 6 year old's comments - Thank you for teaching me how to float, that was very kind. I love doing the back stroke and want to swim every day. I like all of the teachers. I can jump of the board and swim to the side by myself.

My 8 year old's commments - I love swimming, now it is better since I know how to do many different strokes. Thank you for teaching me. I like swimming laps the best."

Both of my daughters, ages 3 and 6, were very afraid of putting their faces in the water, and would scream every time they got water in the face. They have both been in group swimming lessons at least once a summer at a local community pool and never progressed. When I first looked into lessons at SwimKids, I felt like the price was a little high for swimming lessons, but took a chance that it would be worth it. A couple of months later my girls are SWIMMING with thier faces under the water!! It was worth every cent! I could never go back to the community pool again, because I know I was just wasting my money there. Thank you Swimkids!

I never learned to swim and had develped quite a fear of the water. I tried not to think about my fears, but it was hard to hide them. My spouse comes from a real "water" family so we often vacation near the water. I spent most of my time watching from the side lines while other family members enjoyed wave running and playing in the water. I noticed our son starting to develop some of the same concerns I had. I decided to bite the bullet and sign up for lessons with my son. SwimKids has taught both of us how to enjoy the water. I wish I had not waited so long! Thanks to all the great staff for their patience and helping me through a fear I never thought I would conquer!
